Hey crew,
Always fun to share some things with you great people.
I just read the book The Go-Giver and man was it goooood.
None of it was earth-shattering new stuff, but it was an awesome story that gave me a cool framework to think about and utilize.
I’m just going to share my insight and views on the five laws that are shared in this book.
Would love to hear your insight in the group!
-
The Law Of Value – Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.
Ok, we know this logically right? But, how many of us are ACTUALLY doing this in our day-to-day?
We might do it at times, but if we aren’t where we want to be in life, business, relationships, etc. then it’s time to take a hard look at this.
ALSO, we might be doing this in SOME areas of our life, but neglecting others. I plead guilty!
The cool thing is we have the power to change it.
Just to zoom out for a minute, the laws laid out here should come with a preface. In order to use them most effectively, we HAVE to be doing regular self-reflection. Daily and weekly reviews, etc.
-
The Law Of Compensation – Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
Little client story here…
When one of our clients came through ClientKit™ a few years back they were on a journey of building a FB ads agency.
They got good traction out of the gate with a few clients. Revenue was solid at $10k by my third month (first month in CK), but about halfway through CK they realized something.
They was being DUMB.
Yeah, they could run ads and get great results for people. They could help them optimize their landing pages and setup pixels. They could even write decent enough copy to get quality leads for several businesses.
But, they were doing a disservice.
See, they knew that being a coach and a guide is why they were put on this earth, so running a digital agency, while the money was decent with a lot of upside, their sense was that they were killing the potential impact they could have.
So, they made a shift , basically begged their way onto our team and helped us build a massive part of our coaching program.
So not only were they able to impact more people here with us, they were also experiencing great compensation on so many levels. More than ever before.
-
The Law of Influence – Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.
Caveat…You can only give what you have an abundance of so take care of your basic needs first!
Once you are taken care of you can truly show up and impact. Too many are focused on impact when they can barely pay their bills.
Now, once you are good in terms of basics, your focus is on how you can serve more.
So if you are reading this and there is a lack of opportunity or sales right now in your business it’s time to pause and ask yourself if you are showing up to serve.
You’ve got to be brutally honest with yourself because THAT is the way forward.
One of the biggest transformations in your life will be learning how to think better.
I now lead with an attitude, energy and mindset of ‘are they doing the work?’
I used to lead with ‘did I mess up?’
Obviously the latter is totally disempowering and creates a coaching relationship where I try to save people.
If you’re doing that, cut that S&*T out immediately because it serves no one.
-
The Law of Authenticity – The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.
I have a good friend who often says ‘bring your whole self to your work.’
One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is that they cover up who they really are.
This is a huge mistake, especially in your marketing. Unless of course your personality sucks. But let’s assume that is not the case.
See, many markets are crowded, but even if they are not, being YOU and showing the world can be a powerful differentiator.
It attracts those who share your values and beliefs and repels those who don’t.
What could be better than that?
Real life example would look like: Being YOU more authentically and seeing the people who show up on your SS be better fits.
JUST TRY IT.
-
The Law of Receptivity – The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.
Do you suck at receiving? I’m guilty of this.
Just the other day someone shot me a message of appreciation and I had to stop myself and just type thank you.
My natural tendency is not to just receive and say thank you. Maybe you can relate?
Here is what I try to remember…
If I am not receiving then:
- I’ve got less to give others
- I am robbing others of the joy/satisfaction/etc that we get from giving
So just like it is essential to keep an open feedback loop in strategy sessions or coaching conversations, it is equally important to keep a loop of giving AND receiving.
The loop feeds us AND it feeds others and that has an exponential positive affect on those in our circles and beyond.
It’s all good to just read through the five and agree or disagree.
What will be more powerful is to look at these daily and weekly and assess where you can improve because they work together and are powerful ingredients to living the life we want.
Remember…There’s Synergy In The Recipe. ;)
